Stockings another FAL Q4 finish

In the run up to christmas and Nikolaus (here in Germany) the boys needed Stockings of their own. The deadline set by the Kindergarden to hand them in was yesterday and I am happy to say I made it.
Sadly it was quite a close call so I didn't have time to take some decent pictures, a girls has to set priorities ;)

All that is left to do now is finishing the adventcalender for Mr. C., but time is a ticking as monday is the first. Wish me luck!!

Mission accomplished

well as far as ALYOF goes. I wanted to first of all share with you my Swappen auf Deutsch pillow:

I made a hidden zipper using S.O.T.A.K's tutorial. I wanted to use this one for a long time, but the opportunity never arose. I'll be sending it to my partner on Monday and hope she will like it.

This was also my goal for November from ALYOF as blogged here, so that's one more of the list.

I'm linking to Melissa over at Sew bittersweet designs finishes party. This will be the 5th month in a row, so I am quite proud.

I hope to share soon with you some more things I am trying to tick off my FAL Q4 list.

for now till next time,

Tula Monday 52/53

After these two blocks there are only 2 more in this chapter, yeah!

I'm sure that it will be easier for me to befriend myself with strips then with triangles. But for now I plow on:
Block 52: Zipper

Block 53: Patio

FNSI brought me a finish

I am very glad I sticked with my diary plans and dedicated my evening to FNSI.

I was able not only to finish my IG Mini Swap, but also bind it, and even label it! I appologies for the quality of the pictures, the dungeon doesn't have great lighting to take pictures in.

There are a few organic sides to it, like my FMQ, but it was all done in love and hand made.

The outer border I quilted with equalateral triangles.

Never before had I made a quilt label. I embroidered all the relevant dates on there the washitape it there to protect my sworn secrecy.

So a very succesful FNSI with a finish and despite a few wonky bits I very much like it and am rather proud of it. I just hope my partner likes it too.

Its that time of the month.....

This week there has not been a lot of sewing, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw in the calendar that I had marked this day as FNSI! So I'll take advantage of this marking and I will either try to finish my IGminiswap and or start cutting the fabric for Mr.C. advent calendar.

For all of you who don't know what FNSI is head over to Wendy for all the details.

So what are you up to this evening?

Tula 50/51 halfway point some Work in Progress

Unbelievable but true, yesterday marked the halfway point for the German City Sampler QAL. It feels like yesterday that we started.

Block 50: Wonky housing estate
My scant 1/4" was too scant and so I ended up with a wonky block, but instead of redoing it as my first reaction was I decided to sit on it and now I actually like the wonkyness of it, so it is staying.

Block 51: In/out
I am glad that I am/was able to keep up so far and hope the second half will be just as much fun as the first. For inspiration also visit our Flickr Group.

And then there was a little time left for me to start my IGminiswap project. I decided to go into the festive sphere.

For now this is all the progress I can make, I need to head to bed. It's not what I want to do, but it is the sensible thing to do as I am expecting at least 2 out of 3 munchkins in my bed tonight. Mr. Bird is in Turkey this week and I can't wait for the little ones not to be affected by it this much. But for the moment it is what it is and they say every hour before 12 counts double......

Happy Mail and Tula 48/49

I quite like mondays, a fresh start to the week. This monday however was particularly pleasant:

Happy mail!! and whats more it fits absolutely PERFECT!! Lucky for me we receive our mail on mondays extra early (another good reason to like mondays), so no more working around anything. And to celebrate I immediately got to work with this weeks Tula Blocks:

Block 48: Abstract

Block 49: Christmas tree farm
Next is the Swappen auf Deutsch mini/pillow/bag I am making for my partner.

The sewing party

“The Sewing Party” is the first ever online-all-day DIY event in history!
On November 8, 2014, thousands of DIY-ers will gather for a fun-filled day of sewing and crafting classes taught online by leading bloggers and educational experts. It’s all about Connecting. Crafting. And Creating.
Attendees will have access to more than 30 online classes available on the day of the event and for an additional 90 days. There is truly something for everyone! Classes include home d├ęcor, fashion sewing, quilting and upcycling, crafting, costume design, techniques for turning your craft into an entrepreneurial venture, and more!
Space is limited and likely to fill up fast! For just $40, “The Sewing Party” participants can attend classes; chat with participants from across the country; interact with top bloggers and educational experts who are teaching; and explore the latest crafting and sewing tips, techniques and products in our marketplace.
I have a confession to make. I am participating in the sewing party, although I am not a US resident......

Last week Anne from Hudsonvalleyquilts had a give away for tickets to this event....and I WON!

I didn't tell you about it because I was kind of expecting to get rejected once the system would find out I was a non-US resident from my IP address, but no such thing happened and so I am currently enjoying Jennifer  Jangles class making Daisy Hedgehog. This is turning into a fun event and with the US being behind us in time it fits beautifull with all the kiddies in bed.

So what have you been up to this weekend?

Hand quilting

Today was a day I have been looking forward to for a while, I was able to participate in a hand quilting course at my LQS. The course was taught by Ulla Zipperer. We were 3 participants and Ulla. Which was great because it gave the whole thing a rather intimate feel.

I have had a mostly self thaught quilting journey so far, but was really glad I took this class.

The first thing I learnt was that with hand quilting the quilt is loosely held in the frame. The technique is not hard at all, so there was lots of time to just chat and trade tips and tricks.

I enjoyed the whole afternoon immensly and love the rhythm you can get into with hand quilting.

first practise stitches

Other happy news: Mr.K. (who misses his papi the most when he is away) has really fallen in love with the comfort quilt.

More happy news: I found a Janome dealer who has send me a replacement screw which should arrive early next week untill then I am off practising my hand stitching. Have a lovely weekend.

WIP or not

Here I was trying to get in a nice WIP flow when this happened:

The screw that holds the sewing foot on my Janone MC 4900 broke....bye bye WIP.

Back to the drawing board for me :( I am translating inch equilateral triangles to metric ones. My Swappen auf Deutsch partner seems to like them.

I am making it my goal for this months ALYOF to finish my Swappen auf Deutsch mini.

No worries Partner I will get a replacement sorted out tomorrow and then I am back on track.

Pinch, punch first of the month November

So the 1st of a fresh new month. I've gotten in a habit of looking back at last month and planning for this month on the first.

So as you can see Oktober was mostly about the German City Sampler QAL and my most recent finish 'Papi we miss you' Quilt. I also managed to get a good couple of runs in.

And November? November will be all about mini quilts, an advent calendar and a pair of stockings. I am looking forward to it, lots of 'quick' finishes (famous last words.....?)

till next time,
I am linking to Lynns Fresh sewing day and small blog meet.
