#Handpiecedminiswap

I send off my mini today! Which is a good thing because from tomorrow we will be on the move. First to a wedding in the UK and then for a couple of days Sun, sand and beach in France.

I picked a rosette from a pattern called 'Ballet with Kaffe Fassett' which can be found in the book Millefiori Quilts 2 by Willyne Hammerstein.

I intend to make the full version one day (soon) and have ordered 'made to measure' templates from sunset seams. They have the wonderful service that they will make acrylic templates from any shape you send to them, for good value for money.

I surprised myself in two ways in the process of making this mini. First I kept the quilting minimalistic and second I chose the busiest print for the binding. I love how it made the whole mini come together.

Of course I added a few (hand made) extras.  I love the bracelet pincushion and dumpling bags as a go to for extras. I used the same fabric for the dumpling bag as I did for the backing of the mini.

That is me done for June ALYOF,  linking once the finishes Party opens.

Till next time,
Iris

This mini was also part of my FAL Q3 list

Project life week 28: 6-12 July

Monday: Nearly there, but I am so tired, oh well tomorrow is another day.

Tuesday: Happy Mail, or so I thought. The booklet that goes with the templates is missing. The publisher promised to send me another copy.

Wednesday: One test block for the birthday pillow

Thursday: because sometimes cooking for 1 just makes no sense

Friday: irresistabel and not always available

Saturday: The pillow is finished, blog to follow soon.

Sunday: Some home made marmalade for the host of a lovely Sunday lunch invitation

Till next week,

FAL Q3

I can't believe I am blogging about my Q3 list already! I did quite well in the end in Q2, considering I have not been that active on the blog, besides my project life posts. There are a few rollovers though:

1. the famous Elsa Dress.
It was nearly a finish in June, but then THAT sleeve happened en now it will be done in July
2. Bicycle bag, again a roll over

3. Dumpling pouches, another roll over

4. An UFO that I would like to hand quilt. The blocks come from a Bloggers BOM I followed.

5. Tula is still waiting.

6. #Handpieced mini swap this one has a deadline of 19th July

7. An Elsa and Anna Pillow for the birthday girl this month

8. a drawstring pouch
I made a 5" test block, which was too small for my liking for the above pillow, so I'll turn it into a drawstring bag to go with the dress.

9. #Textmemini

10. Nametag
I want to use the Lovepatchworkandquilting tutorial to make a nametag for my upcoming retreat
11. Economie UFO
I want to use this UFO as part of another ESTB quilt I am planning
12. Secret sewer project for retreat
An other Lovepathworkandquilting pattern, this time for  a secret sewer swap I am participating in for the simplysolids retreat

13. HST baby boy quilt

There is a lot on this list, but I am also still planning to continue my #100daysoffabric, so it may not all get done, but I do hope to make a decent dent.

hand piecing: a ALYOF goal

So my #100daysoffabric has really taken off now. In the second week I first tackled the Elsa Dress I have promised Miss J. for her birthday. I procrastinated badly with this dress out of fear. It turned out that once I got started the snowflake fabric was not exactly a joy to sew with but definitely also not as bad as I though.
Day 8
day 9

But the finish worked wonders for my garment sewing confidence. I haven't been this proud of one of my project since my siblings together quilt.

Day 10
Next I needed to start working on my #handpiecedminiswap as the shipping deadline is on the 19th July.
Day 11
Hand piecing and I have a bit of a ambivalence in our relationship. I love the soothing, calming effect hand piecing has. I am also a fan of the mobility. It can virtually be done any time, any where and most of all that makes for an excellent combination with my kids.
Day 12
The downside: progress can feel rather slow. No strike that: it is slow. In a way that is the whole point of it. My impatience sometimes can't take that.

Day 16
So in between I took a break and worked on some bee blocks and other quick finishes.

Day 18
And then on day 18 there was a click. From then on progress seemed to be really fast. I can't imagine that I picked up my sewing pace, but all of a sudden there was light at the end of the tunnel.

Day 19

Due to the heatwave we have been experiencing since last week sewing had to wait till the evening when things marginally cooled down. On day 19 I nearly finished the ring, but didn't quite make it till the last star when I shocked myself by leaving it and rather then having to push for a finish I decided to look forward to the finish the next day.
Day 20
It felt good! I am proud of that decision and I fully credit the proces that this project got me into for that. There is discipline involved no doubt about it, but I am amazed at the recharging effect it has. Not to mention creative ideas that have started to float.

For now I like to keep at it and make finishing this hand pieced mini my ALYOF goal of July.

Edit: I have since finished it and would REALLY appreciate some quilting suggestions:

till next time,
Iris

Project life week 27: 29 June-5 July

This week things got pretty heated up here with temperatures of 35++ degree Celsius. Not much sewing going on, hence more kids pics this week. Also I wanted to post the progress I made in a separate post all about my 100daysoffabric project. Enjoy,

Monday: We booked a local indoor playground for our next birthday

Tuesday: Miss J. build a whole village and was so proud.

Wednesday: I found Miss J. downstairs, the heat drove her there.

Thursday: Daddy came home with pressies from a very special shop today.

Friday: Finally I attached the label and send my first Sibling together quilt off.

Saturday: Yoga freaks

Sunday: the long awaited funfair finally opens (despite the heat we visited ....briefly)
Till next week,
Iris
